~Topic 2 for PRCA 3330~

[Visit Mignon Fogarty’s Grammar Girl’s website. Either read one of her blog posts or listen to one of her podcasts on an area of grammar that is troublesome to you. Write about what you learned (using the three-pronged approach…)

  • What did you learn?
  • What surprised you?
  • What do you want to know more about?]
  • I read her post titled “Is ‘I’m Loving It’ Proper Grammar?” which was about McDonald’s popular advertising slogan. She discussed the use of progressive tenses. I (re-)learned the difference between dynamic verbs and stative verbs. Dynamic verbs are action verbs and are allowed to be conjugated in progressive tenses, whereas stative verbs are not supposed to be.

“She is being a blonde,” was used as an example of what is incorrect use of a verb that can be both dynamic and stative; this surprised me.
